Blackberry classis looks like the regular blackberry (tour and bold series) and it looks more like the blackberry bold 5 and bold 6. The screen is square in nature, a 3.5 inch display, full capacitive touch. It features in front, from the top, a hand set speaker and a secondary camera beside it, just below it is the blackberry logo and the blackberry text, the screen runs just a little below the middle then we have the “call, home, Trackpad, return and end buttons, the QWERTY key board is the last. It is more study that the contemporary smart phone. Its thick nature add to its sturdiness. The size and the keyboard layout ensures smooth typing and if speed is required, it’s a good one even if it is one hand typing. There is a sleek silver strip which integrates the power button at the right hand side at the top, and volume buttons (three buttons in all), and right at the bottom is the speakers and the USB port. At the very top is the 3.5mmm audio jack and a home/power button. On the left hand side of the phone are the slots: the SIM card slot and the SD memory card slot. On the back, blackberry classic features its camera, a flash beside it and classic written in the far side of it. Right in the middle is the blackberry logo.
One of the controversial side of this product is the square shape of the screen. On the good side, for one ratio one proportion use, it is perfect for a square game, emailing, picture viewing and reading if its small size isn’t a barrier. But for movies and most pictures and game which use a rectangular orientation and not square, (e.g. 640 by 480 or 480 by 360 or 720 by 640 or 1080 by 720 etc. you get the general idea), so this reduce the size of the screen to about 60 percent display. The remaining is just black display. This is a very big down side to the smart phone. Another down side is that we have been so used to the rectangular displays of pictures and video and if not for projections, majority of media is in rectangles either portrait or landscape.
The phone comes with a 1.5 GHz and a 2 GB ram which is moderate for a blackberry since blackberry don’t usually run heavy applications and more seldom run heavy games. The internal storage of 16GBis another r up side of the product even though user is only allowed to modify 10GB. This is not unusual with new smart phones has the OS is installed on the internal storage and the locked from external use.
The camera features an 8 mega pixels with flash at the rear and a secondary 2 mega pixels at the front. The camera isn’t that sharp compared to other products of similar calibre. You also have to snap pictures and record videos with square resolution. The video recorder capture a 1080p high definition video with 30 frames per second. The zoom ration is nothing to write home about, the back camera has 5 times zoom and the front 3 times zoom ration with looks like a “dummy” zoom.
Now to the battery, it has a 2,515 mAh battery, this is a regular size batter for blackberry but compared to blackberry usual battery life, this actually outlive older blackberry. This is as a result of the reduce power consumptions, intelligent backlight brightness and the relatively small screen.
Compare to blackberry passport which was announced the same time but released earlier (September). The classic screen is smaller than the 4.5 inch display of the passport and the passport also doubles the resolution (1400 by 1440). The passport also features a higher primary camera of 13 MP but possess same specs for the video and secondary camera. The passport has a 3 GB ram (larger than the 2 GB ram of the classic) and the 32 GB internal storage. The passport is also a little more expensive compared to the blackberry classic.
For a fan of blackberry, it is a moderately good smart phone, though for a regular android user and heavy users, it is not recommended.
